Spaces

Give your AI agent a messaging inbox

Spaces lets an AI agent read and reply to messages on accounts you own. Connect an account, get an API key, and point your agent at one MCP server or the REST API. Claude, Grok or your own code can then list chats, read messages, reply and start conversations, within limits Spaces enforces for every key.

What your agent can do

  • List connected accounts and chats, newest first, with an option for unread only.
  • Read the messages in a chat and download attachments (up to 5 MB each, over MCP).
  • Reply in an existing chat.
  • Start a new chat. New chats have their own, lower limits.
  • Look up a profile.
  • Get a signed webhook POST for every new message.
  • Check usage against limits.

Agents can set themselves up

Every step works through the API and MCP, from sign-up to the first message. The person is needed for two things only: reading the code Spaces emails them, and tapping the links to add a card and connect an account.

  1. Sign-up: create_account
  2. Verify the emailed code: verify_account
  3. Start the trial: create_messaging_billing_checkout
  4. Connect an account: create_messaging_connect_link
  5. Confirm the account: list_messaging_accounts

Guardrails your agent can't prompt its way around

  • Per-account limits apply to every key and every agent. New accounts warm up over their first week, and replies are never held back by first-week limits.
  • Over a limit returns 429 with Retry-After and retry_after_seconds. Nothing was sent.
  • Every send needs an Idempotency-Key. Retrying with the same key never sends twice.
  • Read-only keys for agents that only summarise or search. Keys can be paused, resumed or revoked.

Conversations people expect

Spaces is for conversations with people who know you and expect to hear from you. That covers replying to customers who wrote first, following up with people you already talk to, and keeping your inbox under control. It is not for bulk or cold messaging. Stop messaging anyone who asks you to stop.

Works with

  • Claude Code, Claude Desktop and the Claude API (see how to connect Claude)
  • Grok, through the xAI API's MCP tool
  • Your own code, through REST

FAQ

Questions, answered.

01Which agents work with Spaces?

Any agent that can use an MCP server or call a REST API. The docs show setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, the Claude API and Grok.

02Can my agent sign up on its own?

Yes. Sign-up, verification, checkout and connecting work over the API or MCP. You provide the emailed code and tap the checkout and connect links.

03What stops my agent sending too much?

Spaces enforces per-account limits for every key and every agent. Over a limit, the API returns 429 and nothing is sent.

04What if a send times out?

Retry with the same Idempotency-Key and it will never send twice. If Spaces can't tell whether a message went out, the send is marked UNKNOWN and is not retried for you.

05Can I give an agent read-only access?

Yes. A read-only key is enough for agents that only summarise or search your messages.
