How to connect Claude to Facebook Messenger
Messenger is where Facebook and Marketplace enquiries land, and they pile up fast: "is this still available?", "what is your lowest price?", "can you deliver?". With Spaces, Claude can read those conversations and reply from your own Facebook account. This guide covers the setup, a worked Marketplace example, how to give Claude a stock list it can check, and why Messenger needs a lighter touch than other channels.
What you need
- A Claude account that can add custom connectors. Anthropic decides which plans can do this, and it changes from time to time, so check their help pages if you cannot find the option.
- A Spaces account on a plan. You choose a plan before you connect a chat account.
- The Messenger account your customers already message you on.
- A short note about your business: what you sell, prices, opening hours and the things you never want promised. You will paste it into Claude later.
- About ten minutes for the setup, and a little longer to try it on a few real messages.
Step 1: connect your Messenger account to Spaces
You sign in to Facebook through a secure link and approve the connection. Your account stays yours, and you keep using it on your phone as normal.
Once it is connected, the account shows in your Spaces dashboard. Connecting does not send anything. It only means Spaces can read and send on that account when an AI agent you have added asks it to.
Connect the Facebook account your Marketplace listings and customer chats are on. Claude will be able to read every Messenger conversation on it, including personal ones, so think about which account you connect.
Step 2: add Spaces to Claude
- Open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Name it Spaces and paste https://api.spacesos.com/mcp as the URL.
- Choose Sign in, then sign in to Spaces and approve access.
- On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it once under Organization settings, then Connectors.
To check it worked: Open the Search and tools menu in a chat. Spaces and its tools are listed.
You sign in on Spaces' own page during this step, so Claude never sees your Messenger login or your Spaces password. If Spaces does not show up:
- Open a new chat and check the Spaces connector is turned on in it.
- Sign in to Spaces again from the connector, in case the first sign-in did not finish.
- Remove the connector and add it again, checking the address is exactly https://api.spacesos.com/mcp.
- If it still does not appear, Anthropic's help pages have their current steps, and our Claude setup page has ours.
Step 3: try it
Open a new chat in Claude, make sure Spaces is turned on, and ask in plain words:
- Show me Messenger chats that asked "is this still available?" today.
- Reply to each one with whether the item is still in our stock list.
- Which Messenger conversations are waiting on me?
- Summarise this week's Messenger enquiries by product.
Start with a question that only reads, like the first one. It shows you that Claude can see your Messenger messages before you let it send anything. Then try a draft, read it carefully, and only then let it send.
Good to know
Claude acts when you ask it to in a chat. It does not watch your inbox on its own. For replies around the clock, use an agent that runs all the time, such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw or Hermes, or set up a Spaces routine that sends set replies to set questions.
In practice, treat Claude as a quick helper you sit down with a few times a day: first thing, at lunchtime and before you close. Each time, ask what came in, check its drafts and let it send the ones you are happy with. Customers who message in between wait until your next session, just as they would if you were answering by hand.
A Spaces routine is not an AI. It sends a reply you wrote in advance when something happens, such as a new message or a keyword. That makes it a good way to send "Thanks for your message, we will reply first thing tomorrow" after hours, while Claude writes the real answers in your next session.
Messenger limits messages to people who have not replied, so Claude works best answering enquiries rather than starting new chats.
Why Messenger needs a lighter touch
Facebook watches personal accounts closely, so Spaces keeps Messenger lower than its other channels: up to 40 messages a day and 8 new conversations a day, with 3 new conversations a day in the first week. Replies to people who message you are what Messenger is for, and they are where Claude does most of its work.
For most small sellers that is plenty. If you regularly get more enquiries than that, answer the most promising ones with Claude and the rest by hand, rather than trying to push more through one account.
A worked example: Marketplace enquiries
Here is a session for a small second-hand furniture seller. Names and details are examples.
| Who | Message |
|---|---|
| You, to Claude | Show me Messenger chats that asked if something is still available today. |
| Claude | Five people asked. Two about the oak dining table, one about the green armchair, one about the bookcase and one about the mirror. |
| You | Check them against my stock list and draft replies. |
| Claude | The oak table and the bookcase are on your list as available. The armchair is marked sold. The mirror is marked reserved until Friday. Drafts: Table: "Hi Ben, yes, the oak table is still available. You are welcome to come and see it, we are open Saturday 10 to 4." Armchair: "Hi Nina, sorry, the armchair has sold. We have a similar one in blue, if that helps." Mirror: "Hi Sam, it is reserved until Friday. I can let you know if it comes free." |
| You | Send them all. For the second person asking about the table, say there is already some interest. |
| Claude | Sent five replies. The second table reply says someone else has asked about it too. |
Claude could only say what was sold because the owner gave it a stock list. Spaces gives Claude your messages, not your Marketplace listings, so the list is what keeps the answers true.
Give Claude a stock list it can check
Keep a simple list and paste it into the chat, or save it in a Claude Project, before each session. It does not need to be fancy:
Stock list (updated Wednesday morning)
Oak dining table, 6 seats: available, £220, collection only
Green armchair: SOLD
Pine bookcase, 180cm: available, £60, can deliver locally for £15
Round mirror, gold frame: RESERVED until Friday for a buyer
Lowest prices: table £200, bookcase £55. Never go lower without asking me.
Collection: Saturdays 10am-4pm. Never share the address until a time is agreed.Mark things sold as soon as they go. The most common Marketplace mistake is telling someone an item is available when it sold an hour ago.
What to let Claude say
| They ask | A good approach |
|---|---|
| Is this still available? | Claude checks the stock list and answers yes, no or reserved, with a next step. |
| What is your lowest price? | Claude gives your listed price first, and your lowest only if your note allows it. |
| Can you deliver? | Claude answers from your note, including any delivery cost. |
| Can I come today? | Claude offers your collection times. You confirm the exact time and address yourself. |
| Can you send more photos? | Claude says you will send them shortly, and you send them from your phone. |
| Will you hold it for me? | Draft only. Holding items is your decision. |
Haggling is normal on Marketplace. Put your lowest price in the note, tell Claude never to open with it, and keep any offer below it for yourself.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Working from an old stock list, so Claude says sold items are available.
- Letting Claude share your address before a collection time is agreed.
- Asking Claude to message everyone who looked at a listing. Messenger limits messages to people who have not replied, and it is not what the account is for.
- Sending payment details in Messenger. Agree how you take payment and keep it in your own hands.
- Connecting the wrong Facebook account. Check the account name in Spaces before your first session.
Summing up
With Spaces, Claude can read your Messenger enquiries, check them against a stock list you give it, and reply from your own Facebook account. Keep the list current, keep prices and addresses under your control, and use Claude for the people who wrote to you. The lower Messenger limits are there to protect your account, so treat them as a guide rather than a target.
How Spaces keeps your account safe
Whatever you ask, Spaces keeps your Messenger account inside safe limits: at least 20 seconds between messages, up to 40 a day, and 8 new conversations a day at most, with a gentler start for a newly connected account. If your AI tries to go faster, Spaces holds the message and says when it can try again.
New conversations warm up over the first weeks after you connect:
| Since connecting | New chats an hour | New chats a day |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | 1 | 3 |
| Weeks 2 to 4 | 3 | 8 |
| After that | 3 | 8 |
Like Instagram, Messenger limits messages to people who have not replied, so replies in existing chats work best.
These are Spaces' own limits. They lower the risk of a restriction, but they cannot remove it, because Messenger makes its own decisions about accounts. Read the note at the top of this page before you connect.

FAQ
Does it work with Marketplace messages?
Marketplace enquiries arrive in Messenger, so Claude can answer them on the account you connect. It sees the messages, but not your listings, so give it a stock list.
Is this the same as the Messenger Platform for Pages?
No. Spaces signs in to your own Facebook account rather than going through Meta's Messenger Platform. Read the note at the top of the page about Meta's terms.
Why is the Messenger daily limit lower than other channels?
Facebook watches personal accounts closely, so Spaces keeps Messenger to a lower daily limit to protect your account.
Can Claude reply to comments on my Facebook Page?
Not through Spaces. On Messenger, Spaces works with your conversations, and Page comments are not available.
Will Claude answer messages when I am not chatting with it?
No. Claude acts when you ask it to in a chat. A Spaces routine can send a set reply, such as your collection times, when a new message arrives.
Can I keep using Messenger on my phone?
Yes. Your account stays yours, and replies Claude sends appear in the conversations as normal. You can step in at any time.
What if a buyer seems to be a scammer?
Tell Claude to flag anything asking for payment outside your usual method, or for codes and personal details, and to leave those chats for you. Do not let any AI handle payment arrangements.
