Will WhatsApp ban my number if I use AI to reply?

It is the first question most business owners ask, and it deserves a straight answer: there is a risk, it is lower for some uses than others, and no tool can promise it is zero. Here is what WhatsApp looks for and what keeps a number safe.

What WhatsApp says

WhatsApp's Terms of Service prohibit bulk messaging, auto-messaging and non-personal use unless WhatsApp has authorised it, and WhatsApp says it bans accounts for automated or bulk messaging. Our article on whether WhatsApp automation is allowed quotes the rules in full. WhatsApp's help centre also notes that receiving many messages at once will not result in an account ban: the rules are about how you send.

What gets numbers restricted

  • Brand-new numbers used straight away for outreach. Fresh numbers can be blocked after only two or three new chats.
  • Starting many new chats with people who do not reply, or who block or report you.
  • Sending the same message to many people.
  • Messages sent in fast, regular bursts instead of at a human pace.
  • Starting outreach right after connecting or reconnecting the number.

What lowers the risk

  • Answering people who message you first. That is the lowest-risk use, and the one Spaces is built for.
  • Using a number with a real history of conversations.
  • Keeping new chats few, and only with people who expect to hear from you.
  • Leaving time between messages, and waiting a day after connecting.
  • Stopping as soon as someone asks you to.

Spaces enforces these on every account: at least 15 seconds between messages, at most 200 messages and 10 new chats a day, a four-week warm-up for new numbers, no new chats for 24 hours after connecting, no copy-paste blasts, and an automatic pause if WhatsApp signs the number out.

What no tool can promise

WhatsApp decides on its own whether to restrict an account, and any restriction is yours to manage. A tool that promises your number can never be banned is not telling you the truth. What a good tool does is keep you well inside the patterns WhatsApp is known to watch, and stop on its own when something looks wrong.

FAQ

Is replying to customers with AI safer than sending outreach?

Yes. Replies in chats customers started are the lowest-risk use. The patterns WhatsApp watches most are new chats that get no reply and identical messages to many people.

What happens if WhatsApp signs my number out?

Spaces pauses sending on that number until you reconnect it from your dashboard.

Should I use a new number for my AI agent?

Not on its own. Brand-new numbers are the most likely to be restricted. Use a number with real conversation history, or warm a new one up slowly with real chats first.
