How to warm up a new WhatsApp number
A brand-new WhatsApp number that starts messaging people straight away looks exactly like a spammer, and fresh numbers can be blocked after only two or three new chats. If you are connecting a new number to an AI agent, warm it up first. Here is how, and what Spaces does for you automatically.
Why new numbers get blocked
WhatsApp watches for accounts that start many new chats without replies, send the same message to many people, or start outreach right after being set up. A new number has no history to show it is a real person or business, so these signals count for more.
How to warm a number up
- Use a number with real conversation history if you can, rather than a brand-new one.
- If it is new, use it by hand for a few days: real conversations with people who reply.
- Wait 24 hours after connecting it to any tool before starting a new chat.
- Start with very few new chats a day, with people likely to reply, and build up over four weeks.
- Write first messages that invite an answer, and stop at once if anyone says stop.
What Spaces does automatically
| Since connecting | New chats an hour | New chats a day |
|---|---|---|
| First 24 hours | 0 | 0 |
| Rest of week 1 | 1 | 3 |
| Week 2 | 2 | 6 |
| Weeks 3 and 4 | 3 | 8 |
| After that | 5 | 10 |
Replies to customers who message you are not held back at any stage, so customers get answers from the first day. Messages are always at least 15 seconds apart, up to 200 a day.

FAQ
Can I skip the warm-up if I am in a hurry?
Not in Spaces, and it would not be wise elsewhere. Replies to people who message you work straight away, which is usually what matters first.
Does reconnecting a number restart the warm-up?
Guidance recommends waiting up to 24 hours after reconnecting before starting new chats, as WhatsApp watches new sessions.
Is an old personal number better than a new one?
A number with real history is less likely to be restricted. Many businesses use their existing business number for that reason.
