X (Twitter) DMs for business: limits and rules
X restricts automation, including automated messages, and can limit or suspend accounts that break its rules. Unlike LinkedIn or Instagram, there are no published guidance numbers for safe DM volumes. Here is how Spaces handles that.
What X's rules cover
X's rules restrict automation, including automated messages and posts, and X can limit or suspend accounts that break them. The box above sets out what that means for your account.
Conservative limits by default
Because there are no published figures for X, Spaces sets conservative limits of its own:
| Action | Spaces limit per account |
|---|---|
| Messages | Up to 100 a day, at least 20 seconds apart |
| New conversations | 5 an hour, 20 a day |
| New conversations in week 1 | 2 an hour, 6 a day |
| New conversations in weeks 2 to 4 | 4 an hour, 12 a day |
Best use on X
Answer the DMs people send your business, and start a DM only with people who expect to hear from you. Spaces refuses the same cold message sent to many people.
